How we were established

Ruthann’s tours were inspired by her love of walking, collecting antiques, and the enthralling history of Barbados that her mom told her about as she was growing up.

One day, Ruthann had a “eureka” moment while sitting near the Bridgetown Port. She realized that many people visiting Barbados were asking for direction to the city, or wanting to tour around the island, but weren’t sure how to go about it. Ruthann felt like she wanted to lend her personality and her voice to share with global visitors her lifelong love of Barbados with those curious about its history and beauty. She wanted them to have an authentic experience that would make them fall in love with this small island as she was growing up. This eventually led to the creation of Ruthann Discovery Tours.

What stirs Ruthann’s passion?

Growing up, Ruthann was really passionate about studying the history of her native island, Barbados. As you walk around the streets of Bridgetown, you will feel transported back in time to a very different era. This experience is something she would love to share with other people, so she started a tour company.

Our tours take visitors to many historic places around Barbados, like the Parliament Buildings that were built in 1800. We want to give you an authentic experience of Barbados’ history. After all, the island is one of only three Caribbean destinations on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
